Help a child learn to read

Help a Child Learn to Read is a specialised intervention within the broader remit of the Intergenerational Mentoring Network (IMN) CIC. The Help a Child Learn to Read project, established in 2016, seeks to improve the life chances of young people by matching pupils with volunteer mentors.

We presented our latest research ‘Connecting Reading mentors in schools – lessons for policy and practice’ drawing on data within our ‘Help a Child Learn to Read’ project at Scottish Educational Research Association Conference in Dundee as part of our engagement in the Poverty and Education Network. Creative Activities for Family Learning Resource Available

IMN has developed a resource to support community workers lead creative activities for children, young people and families underpinned by opportunities to engage with low-stakes literacy. The resource can be explored in different ways and can be used to develop a weekly block of activities (e.g. 8 sessions) culminating in an exhibition, or to support individual one-off taster activities.
