We are currently (October 2023) recruiting mentors for new projects!
For our higher education mentoring we need mentors for Lochend Community High School in Easterhouse, Glasgow; Alloa Academy, Clackmannanshire; Springburn Academy in Glasgow and St Paul’s High School also in Glasgow.

We also have a new project with the Royal Society of Chemistry which is specifically looking for mentors who can support young people in developing their interest in chemistry.

For our ‘Help a child learn to read’ project we need mentors for children at Deerpark Primary School in Alloa, Knightswood Primary School in Glasgow; and Oakwood Primary School in Easterhouse.

We aim to make the process of becoming a mentor as smooth as possible and offer support at each stage. The process is outlined below but please feel free to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.

CONTACT US
Complete the registration form found on our website. Let us know about your professional experience, qualifications and the project in which you interested.

INTERVIEW
After receiving your registration form or email, we’ll contact you to arrange an interview. It’s really an informal chat over coffee to help us match you with a suitable mentee. Interviews usually take place at the University of Strathclyde in the Lord Hope Building and take around 40 minutes.

PVG DISCLOSURE
If successful we will invite you to come back and fill in a PVG (protection of vulnerable groups) form. Even if you are an existing member of the PVG Scheme, you will have to complete an application form.

MATCHING
Mentors are matched with mentees based on several factors including profession, interests and location

MEETING
We will arrange for someone from the mentoring network to introduce you to your mentee and break the ice.

In this meeting you will get to know each other, swap contact details, and arrange where and how often you plan to meet.

OVER TO YOU
From here, you will work on building a relationship with your mentee and supporting their progression.

SUPPORT
The project team are here to support your mentoring journey and encourage you to keep in regular contact. You will also receive a log in for the mentor area. Mentoring resources are available on the website and we have a strong network of mentors who can provide support.
