We’re delighted to be putting the finishing touches to our family learning mural, created through a project using art, creativity and mural-making to bring children, young people and families together.
The project has been made possible through funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, supporting Intergenerational Mentoring Network (IMN) to develop family learning activities with local communities.
Learning together
Our approach to family learning starts with what families are interested in and want to explore. Creative activities provide a relaxed way for children, young people and adults to learn alongside one another, ask questions, experiment and develop ideas.
The mural has given families a focus for working together, sharing ideas and contributing to something that they have helped create. Along the way, we’ve explored different ideas around art, nature, wildlife and our local environment, with opportunities for children and families to learn from each other and from people coming into the project.
We’ve particularly enjoyed seeing how the mural has developed through the ideas and contributions of the families involved. The process has been just as important as the finished artwork creating opportunities for different generations to work together, share knowledge and experiences, and be creative.
Almost ready to reveal
The mural is now almost complete, and we’re looking forward to seeing the finished piece in place.
This project builds on IMN’s experience of working with families and communities through our arts-based approach to family learning, including our long-running Family Club work in Easterhouse.
We’ll be sharing more photographs and stories as the project comes to a close, including some of the ideas and activities that have helped shape the mural.
A huge thank you to the National Lottery Community Fund for supporting this work and helping us create new opportunities for families to learn, create and work together.
